Trying to be something that you are not never works. Never. Not in life, not in relationships, not in parenting, not creatively ... not in ANYTHING. But even if you know this it doesn't mean that you won't try from time to time.
Chances are, even with the best intentions, you are going to crash and burn in a humiliating public spiral, engulfed in flames. There you go, down... down... down.
One thing I learned yesterday, I am not Anne Geddes. But I thought I could be for about 20 seconds. Then reality set in and I said, "Anne, you baby whisperer, if you are listening, be with me now. I have zero idea what the hell I am doing, my hands are freezing and sweating. Babies don't like that." Not one bit.
I have a new found respect for the photographers that have mastered this very specific genre of photography. WOW! It is hard.
So in the words of Destiny's Child, Dust Yourself Off and Try Again. You really can. But this time, be real about it. Don't give up. I know who I am as a photographer. I consider myself pretty lucky in that aspect of life but it really took time to figure that out. Eventually I decided that for many, the creative process is often instinctual. You learn to stop questioning and you just do it. There is peace in that place. Now if only I could apply this to all sides of life. ;)
